Ömür Gebeş was born in Istanbul in 1976, completed his secondary and high school education at the ISTEK Foundation Semiha Şakir High School in Istanbul. He then embarked on his academic journey in the United States, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1999. Following his studies, he began his early carrier as a financial analyst at UPS Logistics Group, also located in Atlanta.

Returning to Turkey permanently, Gebes proceeded to build his career at the esteemed Petrol Ofisi A.Ş., starting out as the Istanbul Territory Manager. Petrol Ofisi A.Ş., which holds the biggest market share in the fuel sector in Turkey, saw Gebes take on various positions over the years, including "Real Estate Investment Representative", "Retail Sales Coordinator", "Aegean Regional Manager" and "Western Black Sea Regional Manager" working on a multitude of projects related to fuel distribution, sales, marketing, investment and strategic planning. 

In 2009, Gebes was appointed General Manager at GTI (Gümrük ve Turizm İşletmeleri Ticaret A.Ş) established in 2005 in partnership with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and 137 Chambers Offices.  GTI focuses on modernizing border gates within the framework of Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. As General Manager, Gebes successfully led projects aimed at establishing corporate structure and devising strategic investment plans that paved the way for GTI to become one of the fastest growing companies in the country. Under his leadership 12 border gates and 2 internal custom facilities have been modernized, leading to a unique and exclusive model in the region. In addition, Gebes serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of GSMİT (Duty Free Operators and Suppliers Association of Turkey). He is fluent in English and French, and married with  two children.
