Ömür Gebeş ,was born in Istanbul in 1976. He completed his secondary and high school education in ISTEK Foundation Semiha Şakir High School in Istanbul. He moved to the United States in 1995 for his undergraduate degree. In 1999, he graduated from the Department of Business Administration at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia specializing in Finance. He started his early carrier as financial analyst at UPS Logistics Group also located in Atlanta.

He moved back to Turkey permanently and proceeded his career in Petrol Ofisi A.Ş. as Istanbul Territory Manager. Petrol Ofisi is a major fuel distribution company of Turkey which has the biggest market share in fuel sector. He held the positions as "Real Estate Investment Representative", "Retail Sales Coordinator", "Aegean Regional Manager" and "Western Black Sea Regional Manager" in the following years. He worked in variety of projects on fuel distribution, sales, marketing, investment and strategic planning.

In 2009, he was transferred to GTI (Gümrük ve Turizm İşletmeleri Ticaret A.Ş) as General Manager. GTI was established in the partnership of the TOBB (Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey) and 137 Chambers Offices in 2005 and has been modernizing the border gates within the framework of BOT model. After taking the office at GTI, he led substantial projects to be able to establish the structure of corporate body and to come up with the strategic investment plans. Currently, GTI is one of the fastest growing companies in the country and accomplished the modernization of 10 border gates and 2 internal custom facilities which turned out to be a unique and distinctive model in the region. Ömür Gebeş is also the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of GSMİT (Duty Free Operators and Suppliers Association of Turkey). He speaks English and French. He is married and has two children.
