Taşodalar Hotel
Taşodalar, owned by the Edirne Regional Directorate of Foundations, is leased and operated as a hotel by GTİ. It caters to guests from both Türkiye and abroad who are visiting the historic city of Edirne.
Located adjacent to the iconic Selimiye Mosque Complex, a renowned Ottoman architectural masterpiece by Mimar Sinan, Taşodalar enjoys a prime position in Edirne’s historical and tourist district. Since its transformation into a hotel in 2006, it has become the preferred choice for both domestic and international visitors. Historical Significance:
Taşodalar is steeped in history, with many captivating stories tied to its past:
- It is believed to be the birthplace of Mehmed the Conqueror (Fatih Sultan Mehmet).
- Necati Seçkin, a music historian, recounts that Mehmed II (Fatih) spent his early years in Taşodalar, living with his wet-nurse, Ümmü Gülsüm Daye Hatun.
- Oral Onur, a local historian and author, mentions that Taşodalar was not only the birthplace of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, but also the venue for his circumcision wedding.
- A significant historical reference comes from a 1936 document by the Edirne People's House, which commemorated the works of Mimar Sinan. The document highlights that Sinan and his team of architects and craftsmen used Taşodalar during the construction of the Selimiye Mosque.
